A May 2016 study by researchers at John Hopkins University revealed that medical mistakes constitute the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States. According to this study, more people die due to the medical treatment they receive than due to respiratory failure.
When we go to the doctor, we expect to get the best treatment possible. We trust our doctors and medical providers with our lives and health. When mistakes are made during the course of medical treatment and medical procedures – including births – the consequences are often grave and severe. A botched surgery or misdiagnosis of cancer is the difference between life and death to many people.
In Washington, the law requires doctors and medical providers to live up to a standard of care and to obtain your informed consent before undertaking any medical procedure or treatment. When the doctor or medical provider’s care does not rise to the level expected of them and you suffer injuries, you may have a case for medical negligence or medical malpractice. Likewise, if you do not consent to a procedure and as a result suffer injuries you otherwise would not have incurred, you may have a case.
If you believe that a doctor negligently caused injury to you, contact our office for a free consultation in person or by phone to discuss the facts and circumstances of your case. We will happily review the associated medical records and take the time to explain the process to you if we believe you have a potential case.
